Qwen Code gift card vs your own cloud account
To run Qwen3 Coder Next in Qwen Code you can open a pay-as-you-go cloud account and set it up yourself, or use a prepaid gift card. Same model, same per-token price. The difference is set-up, billing risk and who handles the account.
| Gift card | Your own cloud account | |
|---|---|---|
| Set-up | Buy, install qc, redeem. About 5 minutes. | Create the account, verify identity, enable model access, create credentials, run an OpenAI-compatible gateway or adapter. |
| Payment | Prepaid. No card on file. | Credit card on file, billed monthly after use. |
| Spending limit | Hard limit: requests stop at zero balance. | Budgets alert you; they do not stop spending by default. A leaked key can run up a bill. |
| Price per token | Bedrock list price, no markup. | Bedrock list price, plus any gateway you run. |
| Models | Qwen3 Coder Next only. | Every model the provider offers. |
| Prompt logs | Kept 30 days by us, encrypted, then deleted. | Your choice. |

Questions
Is a gift card more expensive than my own account?
No. Usage costs the same Amazon Bedrock list price: $0.50 per million input tokens and $1.20 per million output tokens. The card costs its face value.
When is my own cloud account the better choice?
When you need other models, cannot accept 30-day prompt logs, already have a company cloud account, or spend enough to negotiate volume pricing.
Can a leaked key cost me more than the card?
No. A key can only spend the balance on your account. Revoke it with qc key revoke and the rest of the balance is safe.
